ClimeCo and Marsoft Announce First Issuance of GreenScreen Shipping Carbon Credits Ready for Immediate Delivery

by Tori Rocha-Baker | August 24, 2026

ClimeCo, a global decarbonization leader, and Marsoft – Global Carbon Solutions, the leading maritime carbon credits consultancy, are pleased to announce the first issuance of carbon credits for the Marsoft GreenScreen project under the Gold Standard. GreenScreen represents a first-of-its-kind solution for decarbonizing the global shipping fleet, turning verified emissions reductions from vessel retrofits into high-quality carbon credits.

“This is the first issuance of shipping carbon credits using the latest methodology we developed in collaboration with the MIT Sea Grant Design Laboratory, marking a significant milestone for the industry,” says Arlie Sterling, President of Marsoft. “This issuance, together with others already underway, will deliver funding to accelerate the pace of retrofitting and decarbonization.

The shipping industry is responsible for approximately 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and while the International Maritime Organization has set an ambitious target, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050, [1] many next-generation fuel and propulsion technologies remain years away from commercial viability. With over 350 ships already enrolled, GreenScreen bridges that gap today by implementing energy-efficient retrofit technologies so shipowners can measurably reduce their vessels’ CO2 emissions and generate Gold Standard carbon credits based on those verified reductions. Revenue from credit sales helps shipowners overcome financial hurdles for investment and fund the retrofit programs.

“We’re proud to partner with Marsoft to bring our carbon market expertise to the registration and issuance of these high-quality, third-party verified credits,” says Erika Schiller, Chief Development Officer. “Together, we’re supporting shipowners in obtaining funding for more advanced retrofits and helping them navigate the voluntary carbon market with confidence.”
